CEO & Board director

Jing Liu

Dr. Jing Liu is the inventor and co-founder of BPC Instruments. Previously, he has served as Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and a Board member since the company was established in 2005. Since January of 2013, Jing has been fully responsible for company operations at BPC Instruments (formerly Bioprocess Control). In 2014, he was formally appointed as CEO to lead the company into an exciting growth phase. Jing is also an associate professor in the field of Environmental Biotechnology and Bioenergy at Lund University, Sweden. Over the past 20+ years, Jing’s work has been focused on both technology and business development in optimisation of the biogas production process and environmental analysis, with a special emphasis on instrumentation, control and automation.

Jing has been nominated for several research and enterprise awards in Sweden. He has worked as a senior scientist,  anaerobic digestion specialist and entrepreneur, leading both academic research projects and industrial product development projects in biogas and bioanalysis since 2004. In addition to having a strong scientific and engineering background, Jing has near 20 years work experience with sales and business development in the pharmaceutical, environmental biotechnology and biogas industries, including 18 years experience of strategy development and management in technical- and innovations oriented entrepreneurial environments.

“Measuring low gas volume and flow with high precision opens new doors in process monitoring and analysis in biotechnology. You can only optimize a process and improve its efficiency if you know what’s going on in the process. That’s what BPC Instruments enables you to do. Over years, we continuously invest innovation and the development of smart instruments, ensure the highest product quality throughout our portfolio, and focus on being service minded and always meeting the needs of our customers.” – Dr. Jing Liu

Chairman of the board

Gustaf Olsson

Gustaf Olsson is a professor in industrial automation and since 2006 professor emeritus at Lund University, Sweden. He has devoted his research to control and automation in water systems, electrical power systems and industrial processes. His research has lately been focused on the water-energy nexus. He is also a co-founder of Bioprocess Control (renamed to BPC Instruments during the second half of year 2020) and became chairman of the board in May 2017.

In recent years, he has shared his time as a guest professor at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, the Technical University of Malaysia (UTM) and at the Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. He is an honorary faculty member of the Exeter University in UK. Between 2005 and 2010 he was the editor-in-chief of the journal Water Science and Technology. From 2007 to 2010 he has been a member of the IWA (International Water Association) Board of Directors. In 2010 he received the IWA Publication Award. In 2012 he was the awardee of an Honorary Doctor degree at UTM and an Honorary Membership of IWA.

“I have been doing research on instrumentation, control, and automation (ICA) in wastewater systems for more than four decades and appreciate the crucial need of reliable instrumentation for feedback control. This need is widely recognized within the ICA specialist group of IWA, the International Water Association, where I have been active for many years.

Controlling anaerobic digestion has been considered notoriously difficult because of lack of reliable instrumentation. I have closely followed the work by Dr. Jing Liu for more than two decades, ever since he was a brilliant PhD student at Lund University. Bioprocess Control under the leadership of Dr Liu has significantly increased the potential for successful feedback control of digesters and biogas production. Smart instrumentation for estimating methane gas potential and measuring small and large gas flows accurately and automatically is of vital importance.

Instruments developed by Bioprocess Control are not limited to biogas production but have a much wider potential. New applications are discovered regularly. There is no coincidence that Bioprocess Control’s instruments have been recognized worldwide as technology leaders, both for full-scale operations and for research lab applications. An important reason for success is that Bioprocess Control connects its advanced instrumentation technology with a deep process knowledge. There is a huge potential for better supervision and control, and the challenge is now to make operators and designers aware of the possibilities that reliable instrumentation offers.” – Prof. Gustaf Olsson

Board director

Kristofer Cook

Kristofer Cook is a co-founder of Bioprocess Control (renamed to BPC Instruments during the second half of year 2020) and was CEO of the company between 2006-2009. Kristofer holds a M.Sc. degree from LTH, Sweden and M.B.A. from Solvay Business School, Belgium. Over the past 10 years he has co-founded several award winning companies in the biotechnology, cleantech and foodtech areas, including Bioextrax, Cyclicor, and Carbiotix. Kristofer is currently CEO of Carbiotix, a company focused on bringing to market consumer related microbiome products.

“Having started 10 companies over the past 20 years, I have always held Bioprocess Control in high regard as a remarkably innovative company, constantly questioning whether things can be done better and creating solutions that fulfil this need. While over the past 15 years I have witnessed a company that has navigated the challenges confronted by all start-up companies and achieved significant success, I truly believe the best years of the company have yet to unfold as the company broadens its application focus and accelerates its development activities.”

Board director

Anita Sindberg

Anita holds a M.Sc. in Chem. Eng. degree from LTH, Sweden. She is a Board member in BPC Instruments since November 2021.

She is currently working as a Management consultant and professional Board director focusing on companies with a sustainable business model. Anita is a certified Change Leader for sustainable development and executive leadership coach.

Anita is an experienced CEO that has served in different global companies in green tech, agro tech, food tech, plastic, mining and chemical industries. Over the past 20 years her work has been focused on leadership, management, business and strategy development, production excellence, change management and sustainability in technical and industrial environment.

BPC Instruments is an innovative and profitable company that has been a pioneer for long time in analysis of biogas/biomethane. It´s important to reduce our dependence of fossil fuels and biogas is then a sustainable alternative.

I´m proud to be part of the interesting transformation of BPC´s technology to new markets, were the company makes a positive difference to both the customers and the environment, such as biodegradability of plastics, waste water treatment, reducing green gas emissions, animal feed analysis etc.

Anita Sindberg 2022

To expand BPC´s technology to multiple biotech industrial markets has a good growth potential and contributes to a more sustainable world. BPC Instruments products are needed if we are going to reach climate and environmental goals such as UN´s global sustainable development goals (SDGs) and reduce our green gas emissions, usage of fossil fuels, raw materials, water and energy.
