Bioprocess Control today announced the global launch its second generation Automatic Methane Potential Test System or AMPTS II. Developed over the past 12 months, the AMPTS II marks a significant evolution in a technology that has already gained global appeal.
Bioprocess Control AB, based in Lund (Sweden), is an innovation-driven company with a strong portfolio of products that significantly improve both the design and operation of biogas plants. Winner of the 2007 Swedish clean tech innovation competition Miljöinnovation, and numerous national and international competitions since then, Bioprocess Control has become a global leader in providing advanced control technologies and instruments for the commercial biogas industry.
Originally launched in 2009 and sold to customers in over 25 countries, the AMPTS I has within a short period of time become the technology of choice for universities, private research institutes and biogas operators around the world interested in understanding how much methane gas or energy different raw materials contain, and how this gas is produced in a digester. Dr. Jing Liu, the inventor of this technology, said: “Understanding the true methane potential and degradation profile of an organic substrate allows users to more easily determine the optimal retention time and mix of substrates for co-digesting, screen proper pre-treatment methods, and evaluate the need for additives”.
Building upon the success of the first generation model, the AMPTS II provides users with improved stability and functionalities such as built-in pressure and temperature sensors, integrated embedded data acquisition, and a new embedded web server allowing for, among other things, automatic real time pressure and temperature compensation, real time gas flow and volume normalization, the possibility of multiplexing, and remote access. Dr. Liu further commented: “The AMPTS II is the product of over 12 months of intense research and development at Bioprocess Control. The end result is a technology that has the potential of becoming a global standard for carrying out Biological Methane Potential or BMP tests. We are certain that the market will react very positively to the launch of the AMPTS II, as we further strengthen our position of being a leader in terms of functionality, value for money and customer support".
