Global launch of automatic methane potential test

Bioprocess Control launched a new lab technology that will revolutionise methane potential analysis. The Automatic Methane Potential Test System (AMPTS) allows biogas producers to determine the true methane production potential and dynamic degradation profile of any substrate at a fraction of the cost compared to competitive products. This in turn will allow one to more easily determine the optimal retention time and mix of substrates for co-digesting.

During the last week of May, Bioprocess Control announced the global launch its first commercial lab technology in the area of methane potential analysis. The Automatic Methane Potential Test System (AMPTS) has been developed for on-line measurements of ultra low biogas and bio-methane flows produced from the anaerobic digestion of any biological degradable substrate at the laboratory scale.

The AMPTS follows the same analysing principles as conventional methane potential tests, which make the results fully comparable with common methods. However, with the AMPTS the gas volume measurements and data logging are fully automatic during the long incubation period, which significantly reduces the time and labour demand for carrying out the analysis.

The high quality of the data obtained from the AMPTS can moreover be used to extract kinetic information of the degradation process, which in turn provides for a much better understanding of the dynamic degradation behaviour of a specific biomass substrate.

- The AMPTS will revolutionise methane potential analysis as it provides biogas operators with detailed information regarding the optimal retention time and mix of substrates for co-digesting at a fraction of the cost compared to competitive products on the market today. The quality of the information generated and affordability of the AMPTS will allow biogas producers to more easily maximise the utilisation of their plants, translating into a higher volume of gas produced and improved profits, commented Kristofer Cook, CEO for Bioprocess Control.
